Brian Visagie.com What it means to be born again Part 2This post “What it Means to Be Born Again (Part 2)” continues from my previous post “What it Means To Be Born Again (Part 1) where we began with a study of Eph. 2:1-3.

In Eph. 2:1-3 the Word of God says, “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this worldaccording to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our fleshfulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.”

Eph. 2:1-3 Outlines Seven Facts about Spiritual Death before Being Converted and Born Again. Before being born again:

  1. Believers were dead in trespasses and sins.
  2. Believers use to walk according to the course of this world.
  3. The course of this world is according to the prince of the power of the air.
  4. This spirit of the prince of the power of the air now works in the children of disobedience.
  5. Believers dwelt in the lusts of their flesh.
  6. Believers fulfilled the desires of the flesh and of the mind.
  7. Believers were by nature the children of wrath.

We’ve dealt with point number one in Part 1. and will continue with point number two.

  1. Believers use to walk according to the course of this world.

The consequence of Adam and Eve’s transgression is separation from Eternal Life in the Light of the Presence of the Glory of God. This separation from the Glory of God came upon every person who is born into this world. This is the course of this world we live. We are separated from the Light of Eternal Life in the Glory of God by Satan’s deceitful veil of death – deceitful, because the darkness of Satan’s veil of death changes into the lights of the sun and the moon and any artificial light. This spiritual separation from the Glory of God because of Adam and Eve’s transgression has passed onto all nations and cultures.

One of the basic human instincts is to worship God. Because of this basic instinct of mankind to worship, people throughout the ages have sought themselves gods to worship. Not only that, this basic instinct to worship always leads man to give thanks to a higher power, whether in spiritual ignorance or not. A person who refuses to acknowledge God is given to the worship of his/her self, and is led by the imaginations of his/her own soul.

In 2Kings 17:28-31 we can learn how that this basic instinct of man to worship and to acknowledge a higher power led the people of that time to create their own gods. For example, “…the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.” (2Kings 17:30, 31)

God’s First Offer at Restoration unto Eternal Life

After God cast man and his woman away from the Presence of the Light of Eternal Life (Gen. 3:23, 24, God did not completely disowned mankind. At His predetermined time God chose to Him a people, Israel, to restore them unto the Light of Eternal Life in the Glory of God. This way of restoration into the Presence of the Glory of God was through that veil that hung in the Tabernacle. That veil which hung in the Tabernacle was a symbol of Satan’s veil of death which hangs over the soul of every person who is born into this world. To be justified, that is, to qualify, to enter through the veil of death and into the Holy of Holies with the Ark of the Presence of the Light of Eternal Life in the Glory of God, Israel had to uphold the Law of Moses.

In Ex. 26:30-34 the Word of God instructs Moses, “Then you shall erect the tabernacle according to the plan for it that you were shown on the mountain. And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it. And you shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, on four bases of silver. And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy. You shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place.”

In Rom. 8:3, 4 we find that the Law of Moses could not fulfil its purpose to justify the elect of God and give them access into the Holy of Holies. Rom. 8:3, 4 reads, “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

God’s Second Offer at Restoration unto Eternal Life

In John 3:16, 17 we read. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” Thus, God opened the way for all of us to be restored to the Light of Eternal Life in the Glory of the Presence of God by offering up His Son Jesus Christ.

John 3:18, 19 continue by saying, “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

John 3:18, 19 tell us that anyone who rejects our Lord Jesus Christ is condemned – that is, judged. This is that judgment that we read about in Rev 20:12, 13 where the Apostle John says, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.” The words “condemn” and “judged” used in John 3:18, 19 are the same Greek word “kree’-no” that is used in Rev. 20:12, 13. So we can understand from John 3:18, 19 and Rev. 20:12, 13 that when we reject the Lord Jesus Christ we will be judged on the Day of Judgment, and we will be judged according to our works.

We will be judged according to whether our works are done in the light of darkness or in the Light of the Glory of God in the Face of Jesus Christ. In John 3:20, 21 our Lord Jesus Christ explains what this judgement entails, saying, “For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.” We do evil and hate the Light of the Glory of God if we believe in the works of the light of the veil of death.  You will find that the lights of the veil of death changes from daylight to darkness whenever it manifest in your life through your usual spiritual dreams and visions. The Light of the Glory of God in the Holy Spirit Who comes with the heavens opened and with the Cloud of Heaven is with great power and never changes to darkness, as it contains no darkness at all. Our Lord Jesus Christ is light and in Him is no darkness. (1John 1:5) Luke 11:35 is clear, “Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.”

When God offered His Son on the cross at Calvary, He set us free from the works of the veil of death and tore that symbol of the veil of death which hung in the temple in two, so that we may have free access into the Holy of Holies in the Presence of the Glory of God in the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ. Mark 15:37, 38 say, “And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.” Thus, our Lord Jesus Christ set us free from the veil of death so that we may do our works in love and in the Light of the Glory of the Holy Spirit of God in Christ – for, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is ineffective without love. (Gal. 5:6)

Heb. 10:19-22 confirms our salvation from the veil of death, saying, “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh…And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.”

The First Rule of Being Born Again

Jam. 4:7b tells you to…”Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” You resist the devil when you reject those dreams and visions by the veil of death which contains the lights of the sun and the moon and man-made lights. By taking a firm stand against the dreams and visions with the lights of the veil of death, you fulfil the first rule of being born again.

In Heb.6:1 the Apostle Paul says, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.” Repentance from dead works is the basic rule of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Without repentance from dead works, your faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is dead.

Faith in, and also fellowship with, your usual dreams and visions which contain the lights of the sun and the light of the moon and any man-made light like a candle, are known in the bible as dead works, and also as filthy works of the flesh. In Heb. 9:14 the Apostle Paul says, “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Our usual dreams and visions which do not contain the Light of the Glory of God in Jesus Christ contaminate your soul and your mind.

Of those who believe in the usual dreams and visions which contain the lights of the sun and the moon and man-made lights and also believe in the interpretation of these dreams, Jude 1:8 says, “Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.”

It is only when you resist those dreams and visions that do not contain the Light of the Holy Spirit of the Glory of God Who always comes with the heavens opened, that the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ will cleanse you of the filthy works of your usual dreams and visions. The way to resist those dreams and visions that do not contain the Light of the Holy Spirit, is to hold on to the Word of Christ until such time as the Holy Spirit of our Lord Jesus will open the heavens with His Fiery Cloud of Heaven and shine His Light of Eternal Life in your heart. 2Pet. 1:19 puts it this way, “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.”

One of the key weapons of spiritual warfare of the born again believer is to resist the devil. Thus, you will escape the snare of the devil and also keep yourself from the course of this world. The Apostle John says in 1John 5:18, “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”

God bless and guide you.
